Yuan Yang, a county south of Kunming in Yunnan Province, China is renowned for its spectacular rice terraces. During winter, farmers will flood the paddy fields with water. I was inspired by the light reflected upon these paddy fields, which will transform into colourful terraces, creating an abstract piece of art. My photographic expeditions in Yuan Yang are usually during winter when the paddy fields are most interesting. I find it captivating when there are sea clouds hanging above the paddy fields, sometimes it dances to the tune of the wind and other times it stands still, indulging itself in tranquility. I was equally moved when the clouds break and the sun shines through, creating an exhilarating phenomenon, and that only occurs in a fleeting moment! By exploring a variety of lighting situations and weather conditions, together with the observation of colours, patterns and lines on the paddy fields, the panel showcases the sea clouds, phenomenal ray and reflections, which make Yuan Yang unique.
