The image has been depicted in my mind vividly for weeks. Finally, I found the time to execute it. The idea was to create a distorted reflection of the glass.
1 – I made a glass tank with the dimension of 3″h x 2’d x 3’w.
2 – Background was a blue paper with a 60W blue bulb behind it.
3 – I placed some blue tack on top of the film container and pressed the glass on it carefully. Gently I adjusted the glass to the angle I wanted. This sounds easier said than done, took me more than 30 minutes to get it they way I wanted.
4 – Then I filled the tank with water. I added dye to get the blue hue.
5 – I adjusted the lights and glass to get the desired reflections.
6 – After more than 10 attempts, I finally got this shot.
7 – For better effect, I edited the reflection in post production.
Conclusion:
From shooting still life like this, I have learned a great deal about lighting, setups and how to create the mood. I faced many obstacles doing the setup along the way, still life photography like many other genre is all about problem solving.
