This is another collaboration with my neighbor’s children.
I was inspired create this piece after reading the myth of Bacchus, the god of wine in Greek mythology. I was motivated to compose a piece that is wild and carnivalesque.
The biggest challenge was finding a model with a long tongue, which was a crazy concept but absolutely necessary.
When I was interviewing these models, I was call a lunatic. The interview didn’t require many words, I just asked them to line up and stick their tongues out.
To my surprise, the smallest kid in the grid actually had the longest tongue and everyone was taken aback.
I used a flash to freeze the flow of red wine.
Then I used the same angle to photograph the kid’s tongue.
It was a little difficult to photograph the small table because its surface reflected the whole studio. To get rid of the reflection, I used a piece of cloth, formed a circle around it, and then stuck the lens through a gap in the cloth.
Conceptual photography is about how to solve problems.
