No still life practice would be completed without shooting glassware.

It is always a good idea to shoot glassware in the backlit. By using this method, the finest detail of the glassware will be revealed， and it also shows the beautiful shape of the glassware.

In fact, from a commercial point of view, to explore the shooting of still life, every time a manufacturer launches a new product, they often use glassware or bottles to package products, such as soft drinks, liquor and perfume. Mastering the skill at shooting still life can help a lot in shooting the merchandise.

For this piece again, I used natural light. Light source was from the window in my studio.

Background was achieved using a large plastic bag covering the window. The light was really nice and diffused. A polarizing filter was used to reduce reflections and glare. To give the composition a cold feel, 80A filter were applied.

I chose F5.6 to get just enough depth of field (DOF) for the glass while blurring the bottle in the back.

Please bear in mind as this was shot with the Canon EOS/1V, an analogue camera with no preview on the LCD. In fact, there wasn’t any LCD, just the viewfinder. There was no preview whatsoever; it only existed in the mind, pre-visualizing, so to speak.

I was rather happy with the result when I examined the prints.
